The European School on Nuclear Materials was initiated under the auspices of the Joint Programme on Nuclear Materials in 2020.

The third edition of the school (ESNMS 2024) took place from October 27 to November 2, 2024 at the Institut d’Etudes Scientifiques (IESC) in Cargèse, Corsica, France. 

It presented the state of the art in nuclear materials science. It covered the multiscale modelling from advanced electronic structure theory to continuum modelling and sophisticated characterization of materials phenomena in the nuclear materials science context. It aimed at giving the students the best possible toolbox for their future careers as nuclear materials scientists. All types of nuclear materials were treated: structural (metallic and ceramics), functional and fuel materials. It brought together 13 world-leading European lecturers and 28 students, mainly PhD students, but also post-docs, Masters students and young permanent researchers.
